This week, each class is specifically focused on enhancing both the self-defense capabilities and ground control techniques of our students. Thank you for checking out our latest Weekly Breakdown for Week 5!

Word of The Week: Strength

In jiu-jitsu, strength extends far beyond the physical realm. While muscular power and endurance are crucial for executing techniques and maintaining control, mental and emotional strength are equally vital. The mental acuity required to anticipate an opponent’s moves and strategize in real-time demonstrates cognitive strength. Emotional resilience helps practitioners remain calm under pressure and recover from setbacks, turning challenges into learning opportunities. Together, these aspects of strength contribute to a well-rounded jiu-jitsu practitioner who can effectively apply techniques, endure rigorous training, and navigate the psychological battles on the mats.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1 (Ages 3-6):

Fundamental Self-Defense Techniques: In the sessions dedicated to our youngest practitioners, foundational self-defense skills are emphasized. The technique ‘Distance Management + Head Cover Block + Body Lock Clinch to the Back’ is introduced, which is crucial for developing their initial response capabilities in various scenarios.
Ground Technique Exploration: Furthermore, the ‘Sit Up Sweep’ is taught, aiming to improve their agility and comfort on the mat. Through these exercises, the basics of maintaining control while on the ground are instilled from an early age.

Little Champions 2 & Juniors (Ages 7-13):

Advanced Self-Defense Skills: As the students mature, the complexity of the techniques increases. This week, ‘Headlock Escape 1: Roll Reversal’ is practiced, which equips the students with the skills to effectively escape from one of the most common grappling situations they might encounter.
Dynamic Ground Training: The session also focuses on ‘Instructor’s Choice: Sweeps & Submissions,’ where specific ground maneuvers are selected based on the class’s progress and needs, ensuring a customized and effective learning environment.

Adults & Teens Fundamentals:

Comprehensive Self-Defense and Striking Techniques: Adults and teens engage in a blend of defensive and offensive skills this week. Techniques such as ‘Blocking Punches from the Closed Guard + Distance Management + Control the Arms + Armbar’ are covered, providing a strong basis for self-defense in real-life situations.
Exploration of Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Sport Jiu-Jitsu techniques including ‘Pull Feet Sweep with Opponent Standing from Closed Guard’ are practiced, which not only bolster competitive skills but also deepen the understanding of advanced jiu-jitsu mechanics.

Adults & Teens No-Gi (Fridays):

Emphasis on No-Gi Techniques

As we delve into Week 5 of our curriculum, focus is intensely placed on the No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu techniques for adults and teens, a style characterized by its dynamic nature and reliance on grips that are not dependent on the traditional gi.

Stand Up Techniques and Transitions

During this week, techniques such as ‘Single Leg Counter Sumigaeshi’ in Class A and ‘Single Leg Defense Hand Fighting’ in Class B are introduced. These moves are essential for developing quick reflexes and understanding how to manipulate the balance and momentum of opponents.
