We have reached the final week of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum! We have all learned and grown stronger together. We hope that you have seen your confidence through Jiu-Jitsu rise to the level that you hoped for! Now, lets jump into our Weekly Breakdown for Week 16!
Word of The Week: Service
“service” in the context of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense encompasses the dedication to teaching and mentoring students, contributing to the community, enhancing personal development, ensuring safety and security, preserving the art, and promoting sportsmanship and competition.
Weekly Breakdown – Week 16
Tiny Champions (Ages 3-4) & Little Champions 1 (Ages 5-6):
Self-Defense Technique: Front Break Falls
- Introduction to the Front Break Fall.
- Practical self-defense escape: rolling to the guard.
- Rocking chair lift and technical lift.
Ground Technique: Mount Escapes
- New escapes from mount position.
Stand-Up Technique: Double Leg Takedown With Grips
- Double leg takedown using basic grips for jiu-jitsu.
Little Champions 2 (Ages 7-9) & Juniors (Ages 7-9):
Self-Defense Technique: Front Break Falls
- Reinforcement of Front Break Falls.
- Emphasizing the importance of this technique for development.
Ground Technique: Mount Escapes
- Escaping from the bottom mount position.
Stand-Up Technique: Double Leg Takedown With Grips
- Double leg takedown using basic grips for jiu-jitsu.
Adults & Teens Fundamentals Class:
Class A:
Self-Defense Technique: Front Bear Hug Escape
- Escape from a front bear hug (under the arms).
- Finish with an outside hook takedown.
Ground Techniques: Mount Escape
- Trap & Roll Method:
- Fundamental escape from bottom mount position.
- Guard Recovery:
- Recover the closed guard as a variation of mount escape.
Class B:
Self-Defense Technique: Rear Bear Hug Escape
- Escape from a rear bear hug when lifted off the ground.
- Hook the opponent’s leg to prevent the lift.
- Place hands on the floor, grab their leg, and apply a leg lock.
Ground Techniques: Mount Escape
- Transition Escape:
- Escape from mount position when the opponent transitions from side control or knee on belly.
- Knee on Belly Escape:
- Escape from knee on belly by recovering the guard.
