At Gracie Barra Saddle Rock Jiu-Jitsu, we’re excited to announce the start of Week 11 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum! This week, we’re focusing on honing important skills across all our classes, with a spotlight on respect, our word of the week. Let’s dive into what our Tiny Champions, Little Champions, Juniors, Teens, and Adults will be working on.
Word of the Week: Respect
Respect is one of the most important values we teach at Gracie Barra. Whether respecting your instructors, training partners, or opponents, it’s a value that goes beyond the mat. This week, we encourage all students to focus on practicing respect in every aspect of their training.
Tiny Champions (Ages 3-4) & Little Champions 1 (Ages 5-6):
- Class A:
- Self Defense: Jab + Straight Punch
- Ground Technique: Bull Fighter Guard Pass
- Specific Training: Guard Top
- Class B:
- Stand-Up Technique: Foot Sweep
- Ground Technique: Bull Fighter Guard Pass
- Specific Training: Guard Top
These exercises will help build strong fundamentals while teaching the importance of respect during practice.
Little Champions 2 (Ages 7-9) & Juniors (Ages 10-13):
The slightly older age group will also be focusing on both self-defense and ground techniques, but with a more complex set of moves.
- Class A:
- Self Defense: Hair Pulling Escape + Backpack Pulling Escape
- Ground Technique: Instructor’s Choice: Guard Passing
- Specific Training: Guard Top
- Class B:
- Stand-Up Technique: Bodylock + Inside Hook Takedown
- Ground Technique: Instructor’s Choice: Guard Passing
Adults & Teens Fundamentals (Tuesdays & Thursdays):
The fundamentals classes for adults and teens build on the self-defense foundation while focusing on guard techniques, passing, and drills for real-world applications.
- Class A:
- Self Defense: Block the Hook Punch + Hip Throw + Armbar with Knee on Belly
- Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Knee Slide Guard Pass Controlling the Sleeve
- GB1 Drill: Open the Guard on the Knees + Pass the Guard + Transition to Mount
- Class B:
- Self Defense: Slip the Hook Punch + Bodylock Takedown + Transition to Mount
- Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Guard Pass Standing Up with Both Arms Under the Legs
- GB1 Drill: Open the Guard + Pass the Guard + Transition to Mount + Escape from Mount with Choke Using the Bridge
Each class incorporates jiu-jitsu techniques designed to enhance the participants’ technical growth while reminding them that respect is an essential part of training.
