Week 2 Curriculum Focus at Gracie Barra Saddle Rock
📘 Week 2 Curriculum Focus at Gracie Barra Saddle Rock Jiu-Jitsu
At Gracie Barra Saddle Rock, we are proud to follow the world-renowned Gracie Barra curriculum — a structured, progressive system designed to help every student thrive on and off the mats. This week, we’re diving into Week 2, with a shared focus across all age groups on Side Mount escapes, building strong fundamentals, and increasing confidence through effective self-defense and sport Jiu-Jitsu training.
🤝 Word of the Week: Brotherhood
At Gracie Barra Saddle Rock, Brotherhood means more than just training together — it’s about growing together. Whether it’s helping a teammate during a tough drill or celebrating each other’s victories, we emphasize the importance of supporting one another on and off the mats.
Jiu-Jitsu creates a bond like no other. From our Tiny Champions to our adult students, this week we encourage everyone to reflect on what it means to be part of the GB family. When we train with respect, trust, and teamwork, we all grow stronger — together.

This week’s character focus reminds students that training at Gracie Barra means representing the values of discipline, respect, and integrity both on and off the mat.
💭 Why Side Mount Matters
Side control is one of the most challenging positions to escape from, making it a key area of focus for beginners and advanced students alike. Mastering escapes from this position builds physical confidence and teaches the mental discipline needed to remain calm and tactical under pressure.
