Welcome to Week 3 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum at Gracie Barra Saddle Rock! Here’s what’s in store for Week 3:
Word of the Week: INTEGRITY
- Integrity can be defined as doing what’s right even when no one is looking. It’s deeply intertwined into jiu-jitsu. Jiu-jitsu is all about respect, discipline, and consistency. Integrity can be applied by respecting your training partner and even looking inward towards yourself.
Tiny Champions (3-4 years old) & Little Champions 1:
- Class A: Focus on mastering standing breakfalls and technical lifts to enhance safety and confidence in different self-defense situations.
- Class B: Our youngest champions will dive into a takedown called the Foot Sweep selected by Professor Juninho. His background in Judo gives him a large selection of foot sweep options. Ground techniques will emphasize passing the guard and transitioning to Mount Position. We strive for the Tiny Champions to focus on controlling in dominant positions.
Little Champions 2 & Juniors:
- Class A: Emphasis on on learning standing breakfalls for a self-defense situation and proper technical lift.
- Class B: kids will explore a takedowns such as the Body Lock and Outside Hook Takedown. Ground techniques will include mastering Top Guard, but specifically how to pass the guard.
Adults & Teens Fundamentals:
- Class A: Self-Defense techniques will dive into stand-up position, including slipping a Jab punch followed up by a Single-Leg takedown. Ground position is Top Guard, but more specifically, opening the guard and executing a One Arm Under the Leg guard pass.
- Class B: Self-defense technique will be slipping a Cross punch, followed up by a Single-Leg Takedown. Ground techniques will be focused on maintaining safe posture, standing up to open the guard, and preforming a Knee Slide Guard Pass.
No-Gi Curriculum (Fridays):
- GBK: Focuesd on technques of week learned in Gi classes, but modifying the grips. Takedown technique will be Bodylock to Outside Hook takedown. Ground technique focus is passing the guard.
- Adults & Teens NoGi: Exploring two potential takedown variations, including the Double Leg, and a Foot Sweep to Single Leg. Ground techniques are focused on opening the guard, which can be difficult in a NoGi setting.
All-Levels & Advanced Class:
- Both classes will explore Leg Grab takedown for stand up techniques. Every jiu-jitsu match, or self-defense scenario begins at the standing position. We will work to hone in on our takedowns to be prepared for standup position. Ground techniques will vary based on Professor Juninho’s choice, but the focus is guard.
We look forward to seeing you all on the mats for an exciting Week 3 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum!
