We have begun Week 2 off the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum for Kids and Adults! We offer classes for kids as young as 3 and up to Adults! If this is your first time coming into the program, we welcome you to your first curriculum cycle! This is our Weekly Breakdown for Week 2!
🗣Word of the week: Brotherhood
Brother/Sisterhood extends to all of us in the Gracie Barra family, but to jiu-jitsu practitioners around the world as well. Brotherhood is having a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among training partners. We can form close bonds with our teammates to achieve a common goal that extends outside of the mats. Let’s embrace the brotherhood this week!
Tiny Champions (3-4) & Little Champions 1 (5-6):
Class A: Self-Defense
- Push Defense and Keep the Base: Young students will learn how to defend against pushes while maintaining a strong, stable base, ensuring they stay balanced and safe.
Ground Technique
- Side Mount: Instruction will focus on side control escape and recovering the guard, teaching children how to transition from a vulnerable position to a more defensive posture.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Practical exercises will reinforce the techniques learned for side mount escapes and guard recovery.
Class B: Stand-Up Technique
- Outside Hook Takedown: Students will be introduced to the outside hook takedown, a fundamental move to bring an opponent to the ground effectively.
Ground Technique
- Side Mount: Continuation of training on side control escapes and guard recovery, building on the skills introduced in Class A.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Drills will provide ample practice for side mount escapes, ensuring students feel comfortable and confident in this position.
Little Champions 2 (7-9) & Juniors (10-13):
Class A: Self-Defense
- Push Defense and Keep the Base + Break Fall + Pedal Kicks + Technical Lift + Ready Stance: This comprehensive self-defense module will cover how to maintain a stable base, execute a break fall safely, use pedal kicks to create distance, perform a technical lift, and adopt a ready stance.
Ground Technique
- Side Mount: Focus will be on the instructor’s choice of escape techniques from side mount, tailored to the students’ needs.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Drills designed to reinforce side mount escapes through repetitive practice.
Class B: Stand-Up Technique
- Outside Hook Takedown: Building on the stand-up skills, students will learn to perform the outside hook takedown with precision.
Ground Technique
- Side Mount: Instructor-chosen escape techniques will be emphasized, providing students with varied methods to practice.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Specific training will solidify students’ ability to escape from side mount through focused practice sessions.
Adults & Teens Fundamentals Class:
Class A: Self-Defense
- Headlocks: Techniques include escaping from a side standing headlock, executing a rear takedown, performing a technical mount, and applying an armbar.
Sport Jiu-Jitsu
- Side Mount: Participants will practice escaping from side mount and recovering the closed guard.
GB1 Drill
- Escape from Side Mount Recovering the Closed Guard + Over the Leg Guard Pass + Side Mount Control (Repeating): Partner drills will focus on escaping side mount, passing the guard, and maintaining side mount control.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Intensive drills to master side mount escapes and control.
GB1 Talking Point
- The Red Shield: Discussing the significance of the Red Shield, symbolizing the protection and unity of the Gracie Barra family.
Class B: Self-Defense
- Headlocks: Techniques include escaping from rear headlock with forward takedown and escaping from rear headlock with outside hook takedown.
Sport Jiu-Jitsu
- Side Mount: Instruction on escaping from side mount to turtle position and performing a double leg takedown from turtle position.
GB1 Drill
- Escape from Side Mount to Turtle Position + Double Leg Takedown + Side Mount Control (Taking Turns): Partner drills focusing on transitioning from side mount to turtle position, executing double leg takedowns, and controlling side mount.
Specific Training
- Side Mount: Dedicated practice sessions for side mount escapes and transitions.
GB1 Talking Point
- The Red Shield: Reinforcing the importance of the Red Shield and its meaning within the Gracie Barra community.
