Week 4 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals curriculum is an exciting time for students of all ages. From the Tiny Champions to the Adults and Teens Fundamentals class, each group has a carefully structured set of lessons designed to enhance their skills and knowledge in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Word of the Week:Â Discipline
Discipline in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu transcends the mat, influencing various aspects of a practitioner’s life. From the commitment to regular training and the patience to master techniques to the respect for peers and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, discipline is the backbone of success in BJJ. Embracing discipline not only leads to progress in martial arts but also fosters personal growth and resilience, making BJJ a lifelong journey of self-improvement.
Tiny Champions (3-4) & Little Champions 1 (5-6):
Class A: Self Defense
- Focus: Distance Management + Head Cover Block + Push
- Young students will learn how to manage the distance between themselves and an opponent, using head cover blocks and pushes to defend themselves effectively.
Class A: Ground Technique
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Getting the Mount from Side Mount + Mount Control
- Transitioning from the side mount to the mount position will be emphasized, along with maintaining control once in the mount.
Class B: Stand Up Technique
- Focus: Headlock Takedown
- Students will practice techniques to safely and effectively execute a headlock takedown.
Class B: Ground Technique
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Getting the Mount from Side Mount + Mount Control
- Similar to Class A, this will focus on transitioning and controlling the mount position.
Little Champions 2 (7-9) and Juniors (10-13):
Class A: Self Defense
- Focus: Round Kick Defense + Double Leg
- Students will learn to defend against round kicks and execute a double leg takedown.
Class A: Ground Technique
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Instructors Choice: Escapes
- Various escape techniques from the mount or knee on belly position will be covered.
Class B: Stand Up Technique
- Focus: Headlock Takedown
- Techniques for taking down an opponent from a headlock position will be emphasized.
Class B: Ground Technique
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Instructors Choice: Escapes
- Similar to Class A, this will focus on escape techniques.
Adults & Teens Fundamentals:
Class A: Self Defense
- Focus: Clinch & Holds
- Techniques: Double Lapel Grab Escape with Outside Hook Takedown + Straight Armbar
- Students will practice escaping from double lapel grabs and transitioning into a straight armbar.
Class A: Sport Jiu-Jitsu
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Escape from the Mount with Headlock Using the Bridge + Escape from the Mount with Choke Using the Bridge
- Techniques to escape from the mount position using headlock and choke defenses will be emphasized.
Class B: Self Defense
- Focus: Clinch & Holds
- Techniques: Two Hand Throat Grab Escape + Block Knee Strike + Jab Slip + Body Lock Takedown + Transition to the Mount
- Techniques for defending against throat grabs and transitioning to a dominant position will be emphasized.
Class B: Sport Jiu-Jitsu
- Technique: Mount or Knee on Belly
- Details: Escape from the Mount Using the Elbows when the Opponent Does Not Open the Knee + Recovering the Full Guard + Knee on Belly Escape Pushing the Belt Knot + Half Technical Lift + Ankle Pick
- Various escape techniques and transitions will be practiced.
