Week 3! Ground Strikes, Leg Grabs and Guard!

Week 3 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum offers a variety of techniques that focus on the basics of jiu-jitsu.

In Little Champions 1 Class A, students will learn how to execute a proper break fall, create distance, and perform a technical lift and ready stance. For ground techniques, they will practice opening and passing the guard by stepping over the knee. In Class B, they will work on a foot sweep, followed by another variation of opening and passing the guard.

Little Champions 2 & Juniors Class A will focus on proper distance management, protecting the head from punches, and executing a body lock takedown or back take. For ground techniques, they will learn the instructor’s choice of guard passes. Class B will work on a body lock & outside hook takedown for the stand-up technique, and another variation of a guard pass on the ground.

In Adults GB1 Fundamentals Class A, students will start with slipping a jab and executing a double leg takedown. For sport jiu-jitsu, they will focus on the top guard, including proper posture, keeping elbows in, and passing the guard using the one-arm under the leg pass. In Class B, the emphasis will be on slipping a cross punch and finishing with a single leg takedown. On the ground, students will learn proper posture, elbows in, and executing a knee slice guard pass.

Drills and specific training will reinforce the techniques taught throughout the week, benefiting all students.
