Week 3 at Gracie Barra Saddle Rock – Building Skill and Integrity

At Gracie Barra Saddle Rock, every week brings a new focus—and this week, it's not just about technique. It's about Integrity.

Integrity means doing the right thing—even when no one is watching. Whether it's drilling with focus, helping a teammate, or showing respect for your instructors and peers, integrity is at the heart of everything we do on and off the mats.

Here’s what each of our age groups is training this week as we continue to grow in both skill and character.

Tiny Champions & Little Champions 1 (Ages 3–6)

Our youngest students are learning to move with purpose and stand with confidence. These fundamental movements set the tone for lifelong habits of discipline and integrity:

  • Self-Defense: Push Break Fall → Feet on the Hip → Push → Technical Lift → Ready Stance

  • Ground Technique: Opening the guard by pushing the knee and executing an over guard pass

  • Specific Training: Guard Top control and balance

We reinforce doing your best—even if it’s your first class. That’s what integrity looks like at age 3.

Little Champions 2 & Juniors (Ages 7–13)

Our older kids are advancing their physical and mental discipline with techniques that blend self-defense and sport Jiu-Jitsu:

  • Class A Self-Defense: Distance management, head cover punches, body lock takedown or back take

  • Class B Stand-Up Technique: Body lock with outside hook takedown

  • Ground Technique: Instructor’s choice on guard passing strategies

  • Specific Training: Guard Top

In every position, students are taught to act with intention and responsibility—on the mat and in life. We emphasize that how you train reflects your character, and integrity means training with honesty and effort.

Teens & Adults (Fundamentals Class)

This week, our adult and teen students are working on strong foundational techniques and takedown entries—all while anchoring their training in the principle of integrity.

  • Class A Self-Defense: Jab slip to double leg takedown

  • Class B Self-Defense: Cross punch slip to single leg takedown

  • Sport Jiu-Jitsu Techniques:

    • Opening the guard safely with strong posture

    • One-arm under-leg pass → Side mount control

    • Knee slide pass → Side mount

  • GB1 Drill: Guard pass → Side mount → Mount → Bridge escape

  • GB1 Talking Point: The GB Uniform – Respecting your uniform shows pride and accountability

We remind students that integrity means showing up, training hard, and respecting your journey and your partners.

Word of the Week: Integrity

At every level, we are teaching more than techniques—we are shaping character. At GB Saddle Rock, integrity means:

  • Showing up prepared

  • Helping others improve

  • Owning your mistakes and learning from them

  • Respecting the rules and the process

These values matter just as much as guard passes and takedowns.
