Week 3 of the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum has begin! We will kick off the Weekly Breakdown for Week 3 with the GBK Kids program! For those of you that are new, we have classes for kids as young as 3 and up to adults! We strive to teach self-defense and the basics and fundamentals of brazilian jiu-jitsu!
Word of the Week: Integrity
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, integrity is more than just a wordâit’s a way of life. Tiny Champions (Ages 3 & 4) & Little Champions 1 (Ages 5 & 6):
Class A: Self-Defense
Push Break Fall + Feet on the Hip + Push + Technical Lift + Ready Stance
- This class emphasizes the basics of falling safely and establishing a defensive stance. By practicing these movements, the children develop a strong foundation in self-defense.
Ground Technique: Guard Top
- Opening the Guard Pushing the Knee + Over Guard Pass
- Learning to open the guard and pass it is crucial for maintaining a dominant position in Jiu-Jitsu. The young champions will focus on effectively pushing the knee to break the guard.
Specific Training: Guard Top
- Practical drills will reinforce the guard passing techniques, ensuring that the students can apply what they have learned in real scenarios.
Class B: Stand-Up Technique
- Foot Sweep
- This session will cover the foot sweep, a fundamental stand-up technique that helps in unbalancing the opponent and taking control.
Ground Technique: Guard Top
- Opening the Guard Pushing the Knee + Over Guard Pass
- Repetition of guard passing to solidify the technique learned in Class A.
Specific Training: Guard Top
- Continued practice on maintaining a dominant guard top position through specific training drills.
Little Champions 2 (Ages 7-9) & Juniors (Ages 10-13):
Class A: Self-Defense
- Distance Management + Head Cover Block + Body Lock Takedown
- The focus will be on managing distance, blocking strikes, and executing a body lock takedown to neutralize threats.
Ground Technique: Guard Top
- Instructor’s Choice: Guard Passing
- Students will work on guard passing techniques selected by the instructor, tailored to enhance their understanding and application of guard top positions.
Specific Training: Guard Top
- Practical application of guard passing through situational drills.
Class B: Stand-Up Technique
- Bodylock + Inside Hook Takedown + Outside Hook Takedown
- This session teaches effective bodylock takedowns, both inside and outside hooks, for controlling and taking down an opponent from a standing position.
Ground Technique: Guard Top
- Instructor’s Choice: Guard Passing
- Continued focus on instructor-selected guard passing techniques to build competence and confidence in guard top scenarios.
Specific Training: Guard Top
- Reinforcement of guard top techniques through dedicated practice sessions.
Adults & Teens Fundamentals:
Class A: Self-Defense
- Strike
- Jab Slip to Double Leg Take Down
- Practicing the transition from slipping a jab to executing a double leg takedown helps in blending striking defense with effective takedown techniques.
- Jab Slip to Double Leg Take Down
Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Guard Top
- Safe Posture + Opening the Guard on the Knees + Elbows Closed
- Maintaining a safe posture while opening the guard ensures control and prepares for passing the guard.
Class B: Self-Defense
- Strike
- Cross Punch Slip to Single Leg Take Down
- Combining the defense against a cross punch with a single leg takedown enhances the students’ ability to transition from striking defense to effective grappling techniques.

Sport Jiu-Jitsu: Guard Top
- Safe Posture + Opening the Guard Standing Up Holding the Sleeve
- Practicing guard opening techniques while standing up helps in maintaining control and preparing for guard passes.
